Educators are endowed with the incredible ability to shape lives, leaving a lasting impact on their students. At ZUN Foundation, we understand and value the profound influence that teachers have in nurturing young minds. It is with this thought that the Nafiseh Khaleeli Rolling Trophy - Most Impactful Teacher was instituted at Sophia Opportunity School, as a tribute to Late Nafiseh Khaleeli, a remarkable special educator and our beloved founder-trustee.
Nafiseh Miss, as she was fondly known by her colleagues and students, dedicated over two decades of her life to special education at Sophia Opportunity School, working to teach specially-abled children. Her unwavering commitment to ensuring that every student received the attention and support they needed to thrive was truly inspiring. She believed in empowering students with skills that would enable them to find their rightful place in society.
Nafiseh Miss was particularly a strong advocate for special educators as she believed in recognizing the teachers and faculty who created unique and nurturing environments for students. To translate and immortalise her passion in February 2023, ZUN Foundation introduced the ‘Nafiseh Khaleeli Rolling Trophy - Impactful Educator of the Year.’ The award includes a trophy, certificate and a token of appreciation, managed by the ZUN Foundation team with the support of the school principal and management.
The first recipient of this prestigious award was Mrs Mahua Dutta, a dedicated social science teacher from Kolkata. Mrs Dutta's passion for special education led her to pursue courses from NIEPMD (National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities), eventually becoming a teacher for special children. She expressed her gratitude, stating, "A teaching award is a flattering gift from the students, parents, or administration of a school. It solidifies that others recognize the hard work we put in as educators. Being a teacher is not an easy task. Each day presents new challenges and demands innovative solutions.’’ Mrs. Dutta highlighted the support she received from the school Principal and her colleagues, helping her to navigate uncharted waters with patience and grace. She sees the Nafiseh Khaleeli Rolling Trophy as a testament to her dedication, passion, and the efforts she has invested in her teaching journey.
Sr. Madhuja, Principal of Sophia Opportunity School expressed her gratitude, stating, "We are extremely honoured to have received the prestigious Nafiseh Khaleeli Rolling Trophy. We sincerely thank ZUN Foundation for recognizing and appreciating the tireless efforts and unwavering dedication of our special educators. It serves as a constant reminder to keep striving for progress and excellence. This award stands as a symbol of acknowledgement and encouragement for exceptional educators who go above and beyond to make a positive difference in the lives of their students. It is a celebration of the profound impact teachers have on shaping future generations.”
At ZUN Foundation, we believe in honouring and appreciating the efforts of these dedicated individuals who mould young minds, fostering progress and excellence. Through initiatives like the Nafiseh Khaleeli Rolling Trophy, we strive to create a culture that recognizes and celebrates the lifelong impact of teachers. Their commitment and passion are instrumental in building a brighter future for all.
As we celebrate the achievements of Mrs Mahua Dutta and the incredible work of educators like her, let us remember the importance of valuing and supporting our teachers. Their contributions shape not only individual lives but also the society we live in.
